A thus-far unidentified off-duty NYPD officer has been arrested following the shooting of a motorist in Westchester early this morning. Details about the arrest are still emerging, but NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton addressed the incident during a press conference this morning, telling reporters, "I believe at this time that there’s a potential charge, again you’d need to confirm with the Pelham PD, of driving while under the influence, relative to our off-duty member."

Bratton was referring to the Village of Pelham in Westchester, where police are investigating the shooting along with the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau. Law enforcement sources tell the Journal News that the shooting was unprovoked; sources say it occurred shortly after midnight near the Pelham-New Rochelle border when the officer fired into a car with two occupants. Another source tells the Times the off-duty officer "fired a gun at the back windshield of another car, striking a man in his 40s several times."
