Christie says he would have Stopped GW Lane Closures

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie claims he would have stopped the George Washington Bridge lane closures, if he knew about it.

"It was a stupid thing to have been done," Christie told a town hall event in Brick.  "I knew nothing about it, had nothing to do with it and if anybody had ever come to me and told me they were going to do this, I would have stopped it."

An investigation by lawyers hired by the governor's office cleared Christie of any wrongdoing in the Bridgegate scandal.  A report said the governor didn't order the lane closures and didn't know about it.  Instead, it blamed the situation on former Port Authority official David Wildstein and Christie's former deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly.

A legislative panel is investigating the scandal, while the U.S. Attorney is also looking into the situation.

The legislature could begin calling witnesses to testify next month.  Assemblyman John Wisniewski has not ruled out the possibility that Christie could be called as a witness.
