De Blasio Upset with Sharpton

Mayor Bill de Blasio is reportedly furious at how the Reverend Al Sharpton treated him during a City Hall meeting last week.

Sharpton was seated next to de Blasio and near Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, but that didn’t stop him from criticizing police practices.

“He felt [Sharpton] embarrassed him, and he regrets now that he let the press in and that he moved Sharpton up [to the dais],” a source told the New York Post.

Sharpton even told de Blasio that his son Dante would be a candidate for a chokehold, if he wasn’t the mayor’s son.

Some in the administration now worry that the incident hurt the mayor’s credibility.

“It’s obvious it was a mistake. It makes him look weak,” a source said.

The meeting was an effort to discuss the death of Eric Garner, who was put in an apparent chokehold by a police officer on Staten Island last month.

Sharpton is planning a march across the Verrazano Bridge later this month, but some lawmakers want the mayor to stop the demonstration.
