The implementation of the new Common Core academic standards has led to some very heated debates. Emotions continue to run high as parents and teachers protest New York's new, tougher academic standards for children. One teacher who spoke at a forum at Ward Melville High School in Long Island compared Common Core to child abuse.
“There is now a Common Core syndrome. We now have children being diagnosed by psychologist with a syndrome directly related to work that they do in the classroom. If that’s not child abuse, I don’t know what is,” the teacher in the video (seen below) said.
Commissioner John King Jr. is receiving the brunt of the criticism as teachers and parents call for his resignation. You can watch the video below.
