A 12-year-old boy has been charged with murder after he claims he stabbed 9-year-old Michael Connor Verkerke to death. The two were playing on the playground in Kentwood, Michigan (outside of Grand Rapids) and apparently didn’t know each other. After the incident, the 12-year-old calmly walked to a nearby house, asked to use the phone, and called 911, then waited for police and turned himself in.
In the largest known online security breach to date, at least 420,000 websites have been hacked by a central Russian crime ring. A published report says the hackers have stolen 1.2-billion user names and passwords in a series of Internet heists. CNET.com editor-at-large Tim Stevens said, quote, "Assume that every password that you've got is no longer safe. You should go through and change them all again." Right now it seems like they’re selling your info to spammers.
Hawaii is preparing for a direct hit from one of two hurricanes heading to the islands. Hurricane Iselle is expected to strike the Big Island of Hawaii later this afternoon. There’s concern about a huge storm surge and high surf bringing wave heights of ten to 20 feet. Trailing on Iselle's heels is Hurricane Julio which could strike part of Hawaii on Sunday night.
Target Corp. is adding its name to a legal defense of gay marriage, joining other large companies that are taking a stand, just four years after the retailer came under criticism for supporting a strident opponent of same-sex unions. Target said it has signed a court brief backing marriage equality in a pending court case and publicly declared its support of gay marriage, a move similar to those taken by Starbucks, Intel and Apple.

And a family was stuck on the ferris wheel when an amusement park shut down for the night. Darren and Lynzie Riggs-Long and their three kids were at Adventure Island in Essex, England when they decided to ride the ferris wheel. While they were seated at the top, the family got stuck and realized the park was shutting down around them. Dad claims the family called out for help for 15 minutes before a member of the public spotted them and an attendant came over and brought them down. Adventure Island apologized to the family, but did say according to security footage they were on the ride for just about three minutes before being brought down.
And a mom in South Carolina called the cops Tuesday afternoon...because she found porn on her living room TV. She arrived home with her two-year-old daughter mid-afternoon, and found some adult entertainment had been left on the television. She figured out it was her 15-year-old son who had been enjoying the adult entertainment. While watching porn is legal, the South Carolina woman wanted documentation because her son has been having behavioral issues.
And what's worse than waiting in line at a fast food place when you're starving? Waiting in line behind an obnoxious kid whose parent is fine with letting them scream. A Reddit user posted his story and his run in with a dumb family at Burger King. While waiting to order, with a headache and after having a bad day, a child behind him was screaming "I want f***ing pie!" So what did he do to stop this rude and stupid kid? He bought all 23 pies the place had and walked out.
