Beth Jeans Houghton
Described as an anti-folk songstress, Newcastle Upon Tyne’s Beth Jeans Houghton mixes angelic vocals and acoustic guitar with samples, keyboards, and glam rock elements for a sound that's more fantastical than down to earth. Houghton began writing and performing while still in her teens, first appearing in front of an audience in 2006 and ultimately sharing the stage with artists including Imogen Heap, Jeffrey Lewis, St. Vincent, Devendra Banhart, and Euros Childs. Bird Records issued her self-titled debut single as a limited-edition 7”; the following year she signed to Static Caravan, which released the single Golden/Nightswimmer and her second EP, Hot Toast, Vol. 1, both of which earned acclaim from the U.K. press. However, little more was heard from her until 2011, when it was revealed that she had relocated to Los Angeles and had signed to Mute Records. That May, the single Dodecahedron heralded the release of her debut album, Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose, which was released early in 2012. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
