A Nigerian vocalist and MC who alternates between a sweetened singing voice and a tense and whispery rhyming flow, Naira -- like the Nigerian form of currency -- alternately presents herself as N.A.I.R.A., NAiRA, and NAIRA, all of which stand for Nigerian American I'm Representin' Africa. She released an album-preview mixtape, titled Lost in Translation, and made it available as a free download in 2009. Later that year, she released her first proper album, On Angel's Wings. At that point, she was familiar with the stage, with concerts performed on her home continent, in England, and across the U.S.
