Melanie Bender first gained chart attention in her native Germany as a member of the dance-pop group Me-Ka-Do. She soon moved off on her own, though, and found another hit with a precocious single named "You Just Want Sex." Her eponymous debut album followed soon after, and was released in the U.S. on Critique in mid-1996.
