Robert "Sax" Crowder
Robert "Sax" Crowder
These are the results, so far, in an attempt to clear up confusion over various musicians named Robert Crowder. It is said that two is company and three is a crowd, so perhaps it is meant to be that at least three musicians with this name have recorded in distinctly different but occasionally overlapping eras. To add to the drumbeat of confusion, two are drummers. But that is not important in the discussion of this particular Crowder, a tenor saxophonist and arranger who worked in the bands of both Lionel Hampton and Earl Hines during the '30s and '40s. He then freelanced out of Chicago with a variety of R&B groups, including Little Milton and Roosevelt Sykes. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
