Tori Spelling is back on TV, and with her 90210 co-star Jennie Garth, in their new sitcom, Mystery Girls.
The mom of four called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday morning to talk about her new project … and of course, reminisce about her old Peach Pit days.
“We’re even closer [than ever],” she says about Jennie. “I can’t believe we’ve known each other for over 20 years. She’s truly like my sister. And the fact that we get to work together everyday again, it’s kismet. It’s all come full circle.”
And their new roles aren’t a far cry from their real lives. In Mystery Girls, which Tori created, the two play “”90s stars from a TV show like 90210, but it was called Mystery Girls,” she explains. “And 20 years later, we come back together and we start up a real detective agency in real life … it’s campy and it’s going to be fun. Tonight is a really special episode for all the 9021o fans because it’s an homage to ‘Donna Martin Graduates.’ My character is Holly Hamilton, so it’s ‘Holly Hamilton Graduates.’”
In fact, in tonight’s premiere, Joe E. Tata, who played Peach Pit owner Nat on 90210, makes a cameo as Principal Frost.
But Tori promises they’re working on getting other 90210 alums on Mystery Girls this season. “We’ve talked to Luke [Perry] and possibly about Shannen [Doherty].”
And if her character had to make out with one of her former co-stars, Luke, Jason Priestley, or Ian Ziering, who would she cast? “Probably Luke,” she reveals.
Mystery Girls premieres tonight, July 23, at 8:30/7:30c on ABC Family.
